Abstract

Objectives: This study was directed to evaluate the effect of simvastatin as pulpotomy medicament to primary molars on clinical and radiographic success rate and to compare it with formocresol (FC).
Materials and Methods: Children aged between 3-7 years who have a total of 80 decayed primary molar teeth indicated for pulpotomy treatment were selected from the department of pedodontics were included in this study. The involved teeth were grouped into two groups according to the received medicament; Group A; 40 Pulpotomized primary teeth received simvastatin; Group B; 40 Pulpotomized primary teeth received FC. The clinical and radiographic evaluations were made after 1-week, 3-months, and 6-months following specific criteria.
Results: However, FC showed a slightly higher success rate, but both simvastatin and formocresol showed comparable clinical and radiographic clinical success with no statistically significant difference.
Conclusion: Simvastatin can be used as an effective alternative medicament for FC in the treatment of pulpotomized primary teeth.
