Evaluation of Comma-Shaped incison and its Influence on Post-Operative Complications in Surgical Removal os Impacted Mandibular Third molar

Abstract

Abstract
Objective: This study was carried out to evaluate the Comma-shaped incision and its influence on post-operative complications in surgical removal of impacted mandibular third molars.
Patients and methods: This study was conducted on thirty patients undergo extractions of impacted mandibular third molars from the outpatient Clinic of the Hospital of Faculty of Dental Medicine – Boys – Cairo, Al-Azhar University.
Patients were 18 to 56 years where they matched the sample’s conditions which are: we exclude patients suffering from general diseases and Pregnant and lactating patient
Patients were divided into 14 males and 16 females.
An objective evaluation of the comma-shaped flap design will be carried out on the 1st, 3rd and 7th post-operative days.
Results: The difference between patient recall time were statistically significant for pain, trismus, post-operative infection and wound dehiscence (p<0.05) but not significant for swelling. (p>0.05)
Conclusion: Comma shaped incision appears to be a simpler, easier, and more effective technique for minimizing the post-surgical morbidity. Post-operative pain and trismus is less in the comma shaped incision. The incision is superior in preventing Post-operative infections and Wound dehiscence.
