Abstract

Purpose:
This study was done to evaluate the effect of introducing gold nanoparticles on the anti-candidal action and shore A hardness of denture soft lining material.

Materials and methods: Three group of specimens were fabricated; (Group I) unmodified
soft liner as a control group , (Group II) denture soft liner modified with 0.2 mg gold nanoparticles per ml, and (Group III) denture soft liner modified with 0.5 mg gold nanoparticles per 1ml. Fifteen specimens, five sample for each group, were examined for their shore A hardness. Nine specimens, three sample for each group, were inspected for their antifungal ability. Data were statistically analyzed to compare the efficiency of the samples groups.

Results: The current study revealed the great significant antifungal
activity for the gold nanoparticles against C. albicans, which is a concentration dependent. While, the hardness was significantly reduced with increased gold nanoparticles concentrations.
